Bird Watching

Sometimes nature unexpectedly shows us living creatures which awaken our curiosity and make us aware of the existence of other lives which are every bit as intricate as our own.

Integrated into the Natural Reserve of the Sado Estuary and the Comporta – Galé Community Project, Herdade da Comporta is a perfect example of the complexity of the environment and a wonderful place for visitors interested in exploring wildlife – particularly birdlife.

The Sado Estuary is one of the most important wetlands in the country with unusually diverse natural systems (beaches and dunes, marshes, woods, forests, salt marshes, rice fields and bogs) which attract more than 200 species of birds.
